TEHRAN – Iranian director Abbas Rafei’s “Oblivion Season” enjoys more success as it has won one of two awards for best film at the 16th Asiatica Film Mediale, an Italian festival dedicated to Asian cinema.

The other best film award of the festival, which was held in Rome from November 20 to 28, was presented to Korean filmmaker Jang Kun-jae for “A Midsummer’s Fantasia”, the organizers announced last week.

“Taklub” by Filipino filmmaker Brillante Ma-Mendoza received the audience award for best film.

“Oblivion Season” starring Sareh Bayat and Pejman Bazeghi is about a woman who starts a new life by marrying her lover but leaving the shadow of her dark past turns out not to be as easy as it had seemed beforehand.

Earlier in September, “Oblivion Season” won the award for best film and also brought Bayat the award for best actress at the Universal Film Festival, which was held in Kansas City, Missouri.

It also received the award for best film at the Brasov International Film Festival and Market, which was held in the Romanian city during November.

The Asiatica Film Mediale screened a selection of feature films, documentaries and short films from Indonesia, Philippines, China, Taiwan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Lebanon and Iran.

Works by prominent South Korean filmmakers such as Park-Chan Wook, Bong Joon-ho and Lee Chang-dong came into sharp focus at the Italian festival this year.
